President Orders Extension of State of Emergency until May 22
The President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili has approved the Prime Minister's proposal on the extension of the State of Emergency until May 22.
The relevant decree has been issued on the basis of the Prime Minister's proposal, in accordance with Article 71 of the Constitution.
"I informed you about the declaration of the state of emergency a month ago, issuing a decree on imposing certain restrictions. The measures taken have led to the control of the pace and scale of the spread of the virus, however, the challenge does not allow us to lift the restrictions early," she said.
"The main thing today is not to lift the necessary restrictions early. I believe that we will successfully overcome this stage with reasonable steps and unity, and the situation will be much better by May 26, our public holiday," Salome Zurabishvili added.
The Parliament will discuss the President's proposal on the extension of the State of Emergency tomorrow.
