European Parliament to Hear Annual Report on EU-Georgia Association Agreement

On May 19 the European Parliament will reflect on the annual implementing report on the EU association agreement with Georgia at the session of the Foreign Affairs Committee.

As the attached document reads, the topics of discussion will be the improvements made by Georgia in some specific areas.

The concerns from the EU derives from the criminal cases against opposition politicians, which increases mistrust and tension between the ruling party and the opposition.

The European Parliament directs Tbilisi to uphold the highest standard of independent court and impartial court.

The EP also orders the applicable NGO’s to assess the processes of electing judges and to further ensure that the recommendations of the Venice Commission are thoroughly implemented.

The Parliament articulates that serious inadequacies were identified in the selecting means of the Supreme Court judges.
