PM Instructs Georgian Ambassadors to Reintroduce Georgia as Safe Destination
Georgia as a safe destination is the message Georgian ambassadors must deliver in their respective host countries, Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia said during yesterday's videoconference with Georgian diplomats abroad, when discussing the country’s positioning as an attractive and safe tourist attraction.
The Head of Government noted that even leading European countries praise Georgia’s effective efforts in managing the COVID-19 pandemic, which is why it is crucial to transform the crisis into an opportunity, and relevant achievements into concrete results in terms of branding Georgia as a safe destination.
Members of Georgia’s diplomatic corps, in the near future, will receive concrete instructions and protocols for foreign tourists entering Georgia to be used in communication with relevant agencies in corresponding host countries. On the Prime Minister’s instructions, the ambassadors will spur work on the establishment of so-called safe green corridors with various countries as a precondition for safe international travel.
The videoconference also focused on Georgia’s new role and place in global investment processes. The COVID-19 pandemic has raised the issue of production diversification on the agendas of the world’s multinational companies, the meeting pointed out, which is why the Georgian ambassadors have been instructed to work in their respective host countries toward cementing Georgia’s image as one of the most business-friendly countries enjoying FTAs with neighboring countries and the world’s largest markets like the EU, China, and others.
During the videoconference, the Prime Minister of Georgia thanked the representatives of Georgia’s diplomatic corps for their work on returning Georgian citizens home or providing them with assistance on the ground. According to Giorgi Gakharia, today Georgia, besides being a success story of combatting COVID-19, is also one of the first countries to have ensured the safe and fast return of many of its citizens back home.
The videoconference’s participants included Georgia’s Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava, Head of the National Tourism Administration Mariam Kvrivishvili, and the Prime Minister’s Advisor for Foreign Affairs Irakli Chikovani.
