MEP: Major Challenge for Georgia is to have Elections in Free, Transparent Way

At the hearing of the report on the implementation of the Association Agreement between the EU and Georgia, Member of the European Parliament, Andrius Kubilius, who also holds the position of the Chairman of the European Parliament’s Deputation to the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, declared that the major challenge for Georgia will be the October Parliamentary elections to be held in a free and transparent way.

“I would like to praise the recent steps taken by the President of Georgia that rally to allow us to see the perspective of full implementation of the agreement between the government and the opposition,” Andrius Kubilius stated.

The MEP further stressed the role of the facilitators and mediators in reaching the agreement. Kubilius also underlined that Georgia can become an exemplary European partner country to the EU.

“I would like to stress the role the facilitators played in the agreement, including EU Ambassador Carl Harzell and this is how the EU can help countries, which have some political crisis,” the MEP declared.
