Giorgi Gakharia and Benjamin Netanyahu Hold Telephone Conversation
A telephone conversation took place between Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Gakharia and Prime Minister of the State of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu.
The prime minister of the State of Israel congratulated the head of the Government of Georgia on Independence Day and wished the Georgian people peace and prosperity.
For his part, Giorgi Gakharia congratulated Benjamin Netanyahu on the formation of a new coalition government and stressed the centuries-old friendly relations with the State of Israel and its people.
The parties discussed the problems caused by the COVID-19 global pandemic and the safety measures – including in terms of the resumption of international flights and restoring tourism – which the states will implement in the post-pandemic period. The concept of the so-called safe corridor was emphasized, which is the topic of active negotiations between Georgia and Israel.
The fact that both states were able to effectively fight COVID-19 was stressed.
Giorgi Gakharia stated that as a result, Georgia will be one of the first countries to be able to open its tourism and receive international visitors from the 1st of July while taking the best possible care of the health of its citizens, as well as its guests, and simultaneously ensuring the strict observance of safety regulations. It is also to be welcomed that Israel is considering Georgia among the eight countries with which it is planning to reopen tourism.
The prime ministers discussed the progress achieved during the negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement between Georgia and Israel. It was noted that the challenges created as a result of the pandemic, including economic difficulties, can only be overcome through joint efforts.
The head of the government invited the prime minister of the State of Israel to pay an official visit to Georgia.
