Japan Stands by Georgia’s Territorial Integrity

The Embassy of Japan in Tbilisi issued an official statement about the ongoing problem of illegal ‘borderization’ activities from the Russian occupational forces in Georgia’s Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) and Abkhazia regions.

“Japan opposes any attempts to change Georgia’s internationally recognized borders”, reads the statement.

In the undisclosed statement by the embassy, Tokyo restates its position that the peaceful resolution of the issue regarding Tskhinvali region and Abkhazia must be aligned with the values of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Anti-occupation movement Power Is Unity indicated that Russian occupational forces have resumed making new markings in the Chorchana forest, Khashuri municipality of central Georgia. These claims might put that territory under threat that hundreds of hectares of the forest may come under Russian control.

The State Security Service of Georgia (SSS) stated that ‘SSS is responding to Russia’s provocative actions in Georgia’. The statement concerning the matter also states that the delegates of the European Monitoring Mission, the Co-Chairs of Geneva International Discussions and Georgia’s other international associates are keenly involved in the developments.
