Kelly Degnan: Strategic Partnership with Georgia Remains Strong

'I have no doubt that the strategic partnership with Georgia remains strong," stated the US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan.

In her words, the Georgian government has worked very well to manage the current crisis.

"We are proud to work with Georgia. This state of emergency was well managed here to enable the development of the economy that Georgia needs. We want to help Georgia. So, I have no doubt that the strategic partnership with Georgia remains strong,” she noted.

As for the report prepared by 13 congressmen, addressing the need to impose sanctions on the leaders of Russia's disinformation campaign, also mentioning the Chairman of the Georgian Dream Ruling Party Bidzina Ivanishvili, Kelly Degnan stated that this is not the official position of the United States.

“This is not the official position of the United States. I cannot speak on behalf of the legislative branch of my government. I represent another branch. Ask the question to Congress. I know that the United States is looking for ways to work with Georgia, and we will continue to take many initiatives with Georgia because we believe in Georgia’s future and success. We emphasize our commitment to Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, ” the Ambassador said.

“I have not seen the document, I was in Gori and I do not know the details. In the past, when there was communication in Congress, due to the fact that they are actively observing Georgia, they care about Georgia, they recognize the importance of Georgia and they want Georgia to be successful. The strategic partnership we have is central to both countries," she added.
