PM, EU Offical Discuss Positive Dynamics in Georgia-EU Cooperation
The positive dynamics in Georgia-EU cooperation were discussed during today’s videoconference working meeting between Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia and the European Commission’s Director-General for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Christian Danielsson.
The conversation revolved around positive results across a variety of areas and practical steps to be taken toward further enhancing the effectiveness of the result-oriented cooperation. According to the parties, it is important to define concrete tasks to boost Georgia’s integration into the EU, to further its inclusiveness, and to bring tangible outcomes to every citizen.
Special emphasis was placed on subsequent aspects in Georgia-EU cooperation, including, among others, deeper ties in the areas of transport and communication, enhanced educational programs funded by the EU to provide more Georgian citizens with greater access to these programs. The role and importance of the Black Sea was singled out in the context of transport and communication ties.
The meeting emphasized Georgia’s visible achievements under the Eastern Partnership initiative. According to the parties, ten years into the partnership, it is now necessary to have a very concise agenda to ensure that the subsequent period is equally effective and that the process of integration enjoys due support.
The meeting also underlined the European Green Deal, an important direction in the EU agenda. As it was pointed out during the meeting, Georgia has sufficient potential to be a good and reliable partner, given the country’s many opportunities for producing renewable energy.
The meeting’s participants included EU Ambassador to Georgia Carl Hartzell representing the European Union and the Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Irakli Chikovani from the Georgian side.
