Today, we see an impressive and remarkable success story of how Georgia is battling a pandemic,- said Tadaharu Uehara, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Georgia, after signing a $2.8 million non-project grant agreement between the Georgian and Japanese governments.
He highlighted the results that Georgia has achieved in the fight against the COVID-19 and expressed hope that the high-tech medical equipment purchased with financial resources allocated by the Japanese government will strengthen the country's healthcare sector.
"Today, we signed the notes to hand over to Georgia high-tech medical equipment worth 300 million Japanese yen, about 2.8 million US dollars.
"Despite difficult geopolitical and economic conditions, today we see an impressive and remarkable success story of how Georgia is battling a pandemic. So I am pleased to congratulate the Government and people of Georgia on their outstanding solidarity during the pandemic.
"I am confident that your success story will help Georgia play an important role in the global fight against the disease. Japanese support is not one-time. Our goal is to promote Georgia's long-term economic stability and resilience. Under the Human Security Program, the Japanese government has funded more than 180 projects over the past 20 years.
"Japan continues to support Georgia for the well-being of its citizens so that no one is left behind the basic needs while Georgia achieves sustainable development. In addition, we hope that our support will contribute to the well-being of the Georgian people.
"On behalf of the Japanese people, please receive this medical equipment as a sign of friendship between our nations," said the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan.
