US Amb: Georgia should Expect Russian Interference in Elections
"Georgia should expect interference in the elections from Russia, because Russia has a scheme of interference, including disinformation campaigns and other efforts," US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan told reporters.
"The United States and international donors initiate to raise the awareness of the Georgian public and help Georgians to spot fake news from quality journalism.
"It is also important for political leaders to provide information to the public on issues that are important to them, to raise their awareness of issues such as economic recovery, education, healthcare, etc. This is necessary to ensure that voters are prepared and informed to arrive at the polling station. This is the best way to deal with future misinformation from Russia or any other direction," Kelly Degnan said.
Elections are scheduled to be held in Georgia on 31 October 2020 to elect the 150 members of Parliament.
