PM Gakharia: Gov’t Makes Every Effort for Georgia to Participate in ‘Eight Nations’
On Monday, the Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Gakharia held a meeting with the representatives of the Rugby Union. The PM’s press service has stated that the parties discussed Georgia’s historical chance to participate in the ‘autumn cup of rugby’, officially titled Eight Nations – the sport’s most prestigious tournament.
In Georgia, rugby is not just another sport, it's a big part of the life of the country and has even become a part of the Georgian identity,” reads the post of PM Gakharia, published on his official Facebook page.
“The government makes all efforts to use this historic opportunity and conducts active talks with the leaders of the Six Nations,” the Prime Minister said.
The Georgian rugby team is set to compete with Europe’s six best teams: England, Wales, Ireland, Scotland, Italy, and France, and the national team of Fiji. Japan was supposed to be the eighth nation taking part in the tournament, but the country pulled out due to the coronavirus travel restrictions.
