MEP Kubilius: Georgia Made Truly Great Progress on Path of Democratic Development
"Georgia is making really strong progress in going along its Eurointegration, along with its democratic development. We are in solidarity with the Georgian people to see its development as a mature democracy," stated Andrius Kubilius, a member of the European Parliament, during a debate where the report on the implementation of the Association Agreement signed by Georgia with the European Union was discussed. He further emphasized the importance of upcoming parliamentary elections for the country's democratic future.
"We have a very important debate. We have a special report. Of course in the European Parliament, we are always very much in solidarity with Georgian people and always wish Georgian people great success. Georgia is making really strong progress in going along its Eurointegration, along with its democratic development. We are in solidarity with the Georgian people to see its development as a mature democracy. The upcoming elections are very important. We hope that Georgia, the Georgian People, Georgian Authority will manage to show and prove that Georgia is really making great progress and that will very much will depend on the authorities. In the Eastern Partnership countries, there is always the threat that during elections authorities trying to use administrative resources for their benefit. We wish great success to Georgia and waiting for the elections. For the time being, I have no plans to visit Georgia. Still, we have very strict COVID-19 regulations," the MEP pointed out.
Elections are scheduled to be held in Georgia on 31 October 2020 to elect the 150 members of Parliament.
