Georgian President Calling for Peace Between Armenia, Azerbaijan
Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili has responded to todsy's military escalation between Armenia and Azerbaijan and called on the parties for peace.
“Very concerned with the resumption of hostilities between Armenia and Azerbaijan. We call for peace. Stability and peace in our region must be our common cause,” she stated.
Today, September 27, martial law and general mobilization has been declared in the Republic of Armenia. The relevant statement was posted by the county’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
Clashes broke out between Armenian and Azerbaijani forces over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region, with at least one Azerbaijani helicopter shot down. The Armenian PM said Azerbaijan had launched an air and artillery attack. Azerbaijan said it was responding to shelling along the whole front, and that civilians hsc been killed or wounded.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia has responded to the resumption of hostilities between the two neighboring countries, expressing hope that a ceasefire agreement will be reached.
