PM: Issue of Russia and Pro-Russianness Always Becomes Topical Prior to Elections
"I cannot seriously comment on this for simple reasons – because the weak opposition in this country has no substantive topics: the issue of Russia and pro-Russianness becomes topical every time, two or three days prior to the elections. We saw who was pro-Russian yesterday. This amounted to the revelation of the subconscious," Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia stated at a briefing after the conclusion of the session of the Interagency Coordination Council.
As the head of the government noted, the fact that the opposition "cannot find a topic" is "bad."
"The Georgian Lari exchange rate is the second topic. The GEL exchange rate has more or less stabilized and now, some analytical letter from the GRU [the Russian Main Intelligence Directorate] has become topical. Unfortunately, I cannot seriously comment on this. The fact that the opposition simply cannot find a topic is bad. To list the latest topics: they are scaring the population that there will be a lockdown. They are scaring the population with this, as well as with the epidemiological situation. Compare [the figures] per one million inhabitants and compare [them] with European countries. Not that we are proud of anything – we are simply calmly doing our job. We are not asking to be praised, and we are not afraid of anyone's criticism," he stated.
