EU Amb Expresses Hope Voting Process Will Be Free from Intimidation
“What we're hoping to see and what voters should be expecting is to be able to go to a polling station that is free of intimidation, a voting environment in which there will be no violence or escalations of any sort, and of course this is the responsibility of all political parties and I made the pledge two days ago to encourage all party leaders and leadership to make sure that their own activists and supporters are adhering to the highest ethical standards”, EU Ambassador to Georgia Carl Hartzell stated regarding the ongoing parliamentary elections in Georgia.
Hartzell noted that the European diplomatic watch assembled 70 teams around the country today, who will be gathering more comprehensive information about the elections. Their efforts are aimed to support the OSCE/ODIHR mission.
"We have 70 EU election diplomatic watch teams around the country today, who will be gathering more comprehensive information about the election day. And we are doing all of this in order to support the overall efforts, to assist the ODIHR mission to play its full role and get as much information as possible. Tomorrow there will be assessments made, in the first place, by the ODIHR mission, but also by others. I'm impressed to see so many people already out voting”, said the Ambassador.
