PM Gakharia: We've Won
Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia has published a celebratory Facebook post, thanking the Georgian citizens who made their choice today.
"We have won! Thanks to the citizens of Georgia who made their choice today! Together, despite the pandemic, we have held exemplary, free, open, and democratic elections. We have shown the whole world that we are an integral part of European civilization and deserve a worthy place in the great European family, which we will all surely get together,” reads the Facebook post.
PM Gakharia thanked the Central Election Commission “which ensured that the wish of each voter was expressed in a safe environment; the observers, our international partners, whose participation in this process was crucial; the police - for the protection of public order. No official results have been announced yet, however, we already know that today the citizens of Georgia have won, those who want to move their country forward, to a peaceful, European future,” wrote the Prime Minister.
The founder and now the Chairman of the Georgian Dream Party, Bidzina Ivanishvili also commented on the election results.
While thanking the Georgian citizens who voted today, he congratulated society on the victory of the Georgian Dream, and noted that the people have voted for “a decent team today.”
Tbilisi Mayor, and the most popular GD member according to NDI’s research, also made his remarks to celebrate the party’s win, calling it a “convincing victory.”
True to the Prime Minister’s words, the official results of the parliamentary elections are not yet known. The polling stations closed at 8:00 PM, and the ballot counting is still in process. Georgian TV channels have published the preliminary exit polls. Georgian Dream’s votes vary from 55% (Imedi) to 41% (Mtavari Arkhi).
