Saakashvili: I Don’t Want Any Position in the Government
Georgia’s ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili has talked to Formula regarding the parliamentary elections and its preliminary results.
The third President of the country, who was named the Prime Minister candidate by the United National Movement, said today he has no desire to be a part of the government.
“Even under the conditions when I was not allowed to come to the country and run a campaign, the Georgian opposition gained a victory with a convincing advantage over the so-called Georgian Dream. The National Movement got at least 33% of the votes, even in my absence, but I think it won much more because we have won all the big cities in the majoritarian system. The National Movement won Tbilisi, Kutaisi, Batumi, Rustavi,” said Georgia’s ex-president.
Saakashvili seems happy with the results, saying that “in the given conditions of harassment, intimidation, and pressure, this is a great triumph for the Georgian opposition. Now our main task is to form a government of national unity,” said Saakashvili, adding later on that he doesn’t see himself as a part of that “government of national unity.”
“I, Mikheil Saakashvili, declare that I do not aspire to any position in this government, I do not care about any position at all, we must find consensus figures and we must form a government of national unity. We must form a broad coalition, a government of unity of opposition forces, to overcome the heavy legacy of the Georgian Dream and bring our country out of the crisis. I am not interested in any position, I was the President of Georgia for a long time and I have been offered to be the Prime Minister of Ukraine three times, and turned it down every time. I am not interested in is taking the position of the Prime Minister of Georgia either," Saakashvili said.
“The main thing is that today the Georgian people voted against Ivanishvili,” Georgia’s ex-president saif.
