Biden Urges People be Patient as Ballot Counting Continues
Ballot counting is still in progress in the United States, where presidential elections took place on Tuesday. Democratic Party candidate Joe Biden is leading in the tight race against Republican candidate and current President Donald Trump. With 253 electoral votes against Trump’s 214, Biden has a little over 50% of the country’s voters putting faith in him. There are six states left that have yet to announce final results: Pennsylvania, Arizona, Georgia, Nevada, North Carolina, and Alaska. As angst in the country grows, and polarized protests hit the streets across the states, Biden has addressed fellow Americans to be patient, and wait for each vote to be counted.
“In America the vote is sacred,” Biden was quoted as saying during his recent address. Biden and his number two, Kamela Harris, remain confident that when the counting is finished, they will be the winners of the 2020 presidential elections.
Biden is leading in Arizona and Nevada, though the gap between votes in favor of him and Trump is rather narrow. Trump has got more votes in Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina, and Alaska, though it looks like Biden is catching up. About 190,000 ballots still need to be counted in Nevada, and ninety percent of them are from Clark County, where Biden currently leads by 8 percentage points, according to the New York Times.
The Trump campaign has filed a number of lawsuits in the last couple of days. As one for Michigan state was denied, the Republicans reportedly filed another one in Pennsylvania, claiming that the party’s representatives could not get proper access to the ballot counting there.
While results from Pennsylvania might come later on Friday, Nevada election officials have said they are still expecting to receive more mail-in ballots until the weekend, making it unlikely to declare anyone’s win until next week, prolonging Americans’ angst.
