US Secretary of State Meets with Georgian President, PM
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has met with Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili at the Orbeliani Palace as part of his official visit to the country.
He reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity at the meeting with President Zurabishvili, reads the information released by the US Embassy to Georgia.
“Secretary Pompeo was pleased to meet President Zurabishvili at the historic Orbelliani Palace, which once housed the US Embassy. At the meeting, the Secretary reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and commended the country for its significant contributions to the fight against global terrorism”, reads the information.
Following the meeting with the President, Pompeo is currently holding a meeting with Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Gakharia and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia David Zalkaliani at the governmental administration, after which he will meet with Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II. In addition, the US Secretary of State will hold a meeting with civil society representatives.
Prior to the meeting, Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Gakharia responded to the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s visit to Georgia on his Twitter page.
“Look forward to discussing the US-Georgia strategic partnership and our Euro-Atlantic agenda with Secretary Pompeo. His visit is yet another demonstration of the strength of our bilateral relations”, the PM tweeted.
Mike Pompeo arrived in Tbilisi yesterday. He will leave Georgia for Israel today. Mike Pompeo visited Turkey before arriving in Georgia.
