PM: In the runoff, I Voted for Fastest Possible Conclusion of the Election Process
"In the runoff, I, of course, voted for the fastest possible conclusion of the election process," Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia stated at the Mtatsminda polling station #5 where he cast a ballot together with his spouse, Marika Pantsulaia.
He noted that the trust vested by Georgian voters in politicians implies a great deal of responsibility, and every politician must take on this responsibility, and political processes must move into political formats, in Parliament.
"In the runoff, I of course voted for the fastest possible conclusion of the election process. The trust vested by Georgian voters in politicians in both election rounds implies a great deal of responsibility. And every politician must take on this responsibility, and political processes must move into political formats, in Parliament. This is what matters now. However great the difference between us, we must learn how to negotiate, how to assume responsibility, and how to work together. This is what we are mandated by our citizens and voters to do. This is how democratic, European states are built," Gakharia said.
The second round of parliamentary elections is taking place in 17 majoritarian constituencies of Georgia. In the second round of elections, the majoritarian candidates of the Georgian Dream are mainly opposed by the candidates nominated by the United National Movement, while in several constituencies in Tbilisi, the candidate of the ruling party is opposed by a coordinated candidate agreed between the opposition parties.
Despite the opposition's refusal to run in the second round of majoritarian elections, their candidates have not been withdrawn from the election, meaning voters can decide in their favor.
