Georgian Ballerina Maia Makhateli Named Dancer of the Year

British Dance Europe magazine has named Georgia’s award-winning ballet dancer Maia Makhateli 'Dancer of the Year.'

Makhateli was one of 11 performers selected from all over the world as nominees of the 2020 Dancer of the Year Award.

The Georgian-born soloist was awarded the prestigious Alexandra Radius Prize in 2015 in Amsterdam, where she has been living since joining the Netherlands’ principal company in 2007.

In 2011, Makhateli was awarded the ‘Star’ prize, established by famous Georgian dancer Nina Ananiashvili and Swiss jeweller Gilbert Albert.

In 2019, Makhateli was included in the renowned dance magazine's Critics’ Choice twice in the category: ‘outstanding performance by a female dancer’.
