Japaridze: What Happened to Us in 2020 Is Worse than What Happened in August 2008

“While our country is shut down, while we sit at home and are not allowed to leave, achieving other things politically is impossible.”- Zurab Japaridze

The co-founder of Girchi, Zurab Japaridze, announced his support for the people protesting against COVID-19 restrictions, saying they have created a group through which they help people with transportation. He discussed the severity of the economic situation in Georgia and named it his number one concern on talk show Political Friday on TV Pirveli.

“We, the politicians, just support them. People organized everything on their own. We created a group that helps people with transportation because a lot of them do not have enough money to leave their districts and come to the chancellery, so I help coordinate them in a way, but otherwise everything is organized by the people themselves. I want to ask the politicians to give these people a chance to talk with the media as much as possible during the protest. I plan to redirect all the media that approach me to other activists. Who enters Parliament is honestly my secondary concern. I don't think it essentially changes anything. This is the main problem now. Today last year’s economic indicators were published. What happened to us in a year is way worse than what happened to us during the August War. While our country is shut down, while we are sitting at home and are not allowed to leave, achieving other things politically is impossible.”- said Japaridze.
