Inmate Employment Main Priority Next Year

The Ministry of Probation and Corrections of Georgia declared that prisoners’ employment will be their main priority in 2016.

Acting Probation and Corrections Minister Kakha Kakhishvili emphasized that the legislative amendments have already been initiated in order to implement the task.

“Employment of inmates is one of the priorities of 2016. According to the amendments we will be able to sign contracts with inmates on employment. We will take them from one institution to another in order to fulfil repair works. Following regime requirements is also a priority. The next question is selling inmates’ handmade things via online shops,” he said.

He has also mentioned that a separate building will be constructed for those inmates whose age teeters between 14 and 21.
