Georgia Celebrates National Flag Day

Georgia celebrated national flag day on January 14th, also known as the Five Cross Flag of Georgia.

The Georgian national flag was raised in all across the country. Various events were held to celebrate the date.

The President of Georgia, Giorgi Margvelashvili, met with Georgian youth from the country’s regions and gave a speech about the importance of this national symbol.

An exhibition was also held at the Presidential Palace where medieval period heraldic materials reflecting the Five Cross Flag were presented.

The Five Cross Flag was restored on January 14th, 2004, and was supported by the majority of Georgians including the Georgian church.

The composition of the national flag is a symbolic image of Jesus Christ and the Four Evangelists.
