Georgian Movie to Show at French Film Festival
Father, a film by Georgian director Data Pirtskhalava, 28, will be screened at the European First Film Festival in France.
The film will be screened in the Short and Feature Films category at the Premiers Plans Film Festival, which takes place between January 22nd and 31st.
The movie is Pirtskhalava’s debut work, which was filmed with the support of TBC Bank and the National Film Center of Georgia.
Father is a dynamic short film about a small Georgian family consisting of a working single mother and two teenage brothers. The father abandoned the family years ago, without any proper explanation. The boys are very much affected by the absence of a father figure in their lives. They undertake robbing local cars for radios in order to help their mother. An unexpected personal plot-twist occurs during one such robbery.
The world premiere of the movie was held at the Locarno International Film Festival in Switzerland a few months ago. At this festival, Pirtskhalava achieved success and took the Golden Leopard award for the best short film.
The film was also presented in several international film festivals.
Since graduating from the Shota Rustaveli Theater and Georgia State Film University (TAFU) in Tbilisi, Pirtskhalava wrote and co-wrote several short and feature-length films. Mama (2015) is his first stint as director.
