PM Kvirikashvili: Separating State Security, National Security Councils Unacceptable
In a statement Friday, Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili said a proposal to merge the country’s state security and crisis management council with the national security council is unacceptable.
“In order to have prompt management during critical situations, the government requires an effective and efficient body. In this case, this is the state security and crisis management council.”
The jurisdiction of the state security, crisis management and national security councils are explicitly separated, Kvirikashvili said.
The current constitution stipulates that the national security council is responsible for crisis management in the country. Under the previous constitution, the office of the president was responsible for all decisions related to national emergencies.
