Georgian Novel Gets German Translation

TBILISI - Georgian writer Lasha Bugadze’s 2009 novel “The Literature Express” has been translated into German, making it the first Georgian book to be published in a foreign language in 2016.

German publishing house Frankfurter Verlagsanstalt, with support by Georgian National Book Center, will be responsible for the book’s distribution in German speaking countries.

Georgian writer Nino Kharatishvili was responsible for translating the novel.

“The Literature Express” is a riotous parable about a group of mediocre multi-national writers travelling across Europe by train. As the group gathers they debate the state of literary culture, the European Union, and their conflicting ambitions.

The novel had previously been translated into English by Georgian author Maya Kiasashvili in 2014.
