6 Russian Soldiers Killed, Dozens Injured in South Ossetia Car Accident

TSKHINVALI, South Ossetia - Six Russian military officials have died and dozens were injured in a car accident in Georgia’s breakaway region South Ossetia.

According to the rebel district’s de facto defense ministry, six Russian officers were killed and 16 injured while the drove in a convoy taking part in a training exercise between Russian and South Ossetian soldiers.

Officials in the separatist capital Tskhinvali said the truck experienced brake trouble and plunged into a deep ravine on an isolated mountain road.

All of the injured personnel have been taken to a nearby hospital and are undergoing treatment by the medical staff.

In response to the incident, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu dispatched several doctors from the Chkalovsky Airfield near Moscow to South Ossetia to help bring the injured back to the Russian capital.
