Georgia’s Education Minister Dismissed, Replaced by Management Academy Head
TBILISI – Georgia’s Science and Education Minister Tamar Sanikidze has been dismissed from her duties by Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili and replaced by Alexander Jejelava, the chairman of the non-profit organization Management Academy.
Sanikidze had served as an Education Minister since July 2013.
Jejelava is known for his decade of experience as a teacher and academic trainer as well as his expertise in banking, the public sector, higher education and IT.
According to Kvirikashvili, Sanikidze will continue to work for his government.
“Tamar is not going to be far from our team, and we’ll soon have an important discussion about the new minister’s mandate,” Kvirikashvili said.
The cabinet shift is the first in Kvirikashvili’s government since he took over as prime minister in December 2015.
