Ramishvilebi, The Show You Wish Would Never End
For the first time since its premiere in winter 2013, the Georgian National Ballet Sukhishvili ensemble once again wowed audiences with a display of fusion Georgian-ballet-jazz and contemporary dance in Tbilisi.
Last night saw Tbilisi Concert Hall packed to the rafters with audience members of all ages who sat entranced through the one hour spectacle. One hour of stunningly colorful and flowing costumes, talented footwork and flexibility, powerful leaps and rolls, and the exceptional playing of a digeridoo.
As far I could see, the show in no way differed from the previous one, but it didn't need to. Choreographers Nino Ramishvili (both Senior and Jr) and Iliko Sukhishvili Jr and his team have done a marvellous job of fusing Georgian tradition with contemporary styles- from the dance of the Georgian Tablecloths (my name) to the tribal Hairy Men (again, my name!), with the regular interjection of the iconic Red Ladies, sweeping majestically across the stage- every moment merited huge applause and a final extended standing ovation.
If you missed it, try not to miss the next. It is truly an experience of a lifetime, guaranteed to leave you with a full heart and devotion to everything that is Georgia!
