Heavy Rains Flood Western Georgia

BATUMI, Georgia – The streets of Georgia’s Black Sea city Batumi were flooded overnight as an unseasonably powerful rainstorm passed over the Adjaria region.

Prior to the situation being stabilized later Friday, the city administration was temporarily forced to halt the water supply to several of Batumi’s districts.

The city services said they did not expect any further flooding, and emergency crews would continue to remove the excess water from the streets.

More than 50 villages in the Imereti region were also flooded on Thursday. The district administration of Van said that about 80 per cent of the area was under water..

Weather forecasts indicate that heavy rain will continue to hit the Imereti and Adjaria regions in the coming days.
