Georgia’s Agricultural Minister Gives Glowing Report of His Work Ahead of Elections
TBILISI - Georgia’s Agriculture Minister Otar Danelia on Monday presented a glowing report of his office’s work since 2014 to Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili.
According to Danelia’s data, 150 new and 700 expanded enterprises have opened, and more than 1.600 agricultural cooperatives have been established under Danelia’s term in office.
The report said that around 23,600 hectares of land plots had been insured over the last two years, in line with the government’s agricultural insurance reform.
Kvirikashvili added, however, that despite positive numbers coming in from the country’s agricultural sector, Georgia has significant hurdles to jump before it reached its full potential.
"The agricultural field is very important for the country and its economic development. It carries an important social significance as more than half of our population is employed in the agriculture sector,” Kvirikashvili said.
