Saakashvili Blames Low Wages for Corruption in Ukraine

Reports say the Georgian reformers’ salaries in the top positions in Ukraine are miserable. No exception, Mikheil Saakashvili, the Georgian ex-President and current governor of the largest region of Ukraine, Odessa, is said to be earning around 270 USD per month.

These low incomes in Ukraine, so resembling those of Georgia’s recent past, are, the governor believes, the main reason for the weak state system and rampant corruption in almost every sector of the country.

“I will not be able to remain in the governor’s post with such a salary,” Saakashvili said.
