Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia to attend patriarch Kirill’s 70th Jubilee in Moscow

TBILISI– The head of Georgian Church is to visit Moscow in November in order to attend a 70-year jubilee of his Russian counterpart.

As Patriarchate of Georgia informs, Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II was invited by the Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia to celebrate his 70th jubilee on November 20.

Illia II will also visit a Georgian Orthodox church in Moscow and meet with the representatives of the Georgian community during his November trip.

Even though since August 2008 following the five-day war with Russia-Georgia has ended all diplomatic relations with its northern neighbor, Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II has kept ties with Russia. He even met President Vladimir Putin in 2013.

The Patriarchate didn’t comment on whether Ilia II would meet with the Russian politicians as dfwatch.net informs.
