Georgian Mission Head to Geneva Becomes Vice President of UN Human Rights Council

Georgia’s permanent representative to the United Nations (UN) division and to other international organizations in Geneva, Shalva Tsiskarashvili was elected on the position of the Vice President of UN Human Rights Council on Monday.

This is the first time Georgia’s representative was elected on the post with the other co-vice-presidents from Egypt, Iraq and representatives of Switzerland.

Georgia was elected as a member of the UN Human Rights Council for 2016-2018.

Shalva Tsiskarashvili together with the Council’s President and other members of the bureau will take part in the development of organizational and procedural issues and will lead individual sessions.

The UN Human Rights Council is an inter-governmental body within the United Nations system made up of 47 States responsible for the promotion and protection of all human rights around the globe.
