Georgia, US Sign Security Framework Agreement

TBILISI - Georgia’s Ministry of Defense (MoD) and the United States (US) Defense department signed a framework agreement in security field for 2016-2019.

The agreement was signed on Tuesday by Georgia’s Minister of Defense Levan Izoria and the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, Michael Carpenter.

The three-year framework agreement envisages long-term objectives of bilateral cooperation between Georgia and the US and helps to develop strong defensive capabilities.

The framework agreement is the supporting document of the Memorandum on Deepening the Defense and Security Partnership between the United States of America and Georgia, signed in July when the US Secretary of State John Kerry visited Georgia.

Georgia’s MoD reports that the priorities, goals and objectives enlisted in the agreement will be subject to annual review and renewal after bilateral defense consultations.

“We also plan to create a combat training center together with our strategic partner, and our combat readiness level will be of a very high level  due to this center," Georgia’s Defense Minister stated.

The sides underlined the importance of joint military trainings Agile Spirit and Noble Partner. Levan Izoria hoped that Georgia and the US would further continue joint military drills.
