Georgia’s Education Ministry to Reduce Its Staff
TBILISI – Georgia’s Education Minister, Alexander Jejelava, has told Palitra News that around 200 to 250 people would be dismissed from the Ministry in the near future.
The minister spoke about the ongoing process of optimization in the ministry and confirmed that the number of lawyers is going to be halved.
Jejelava said that in total there were 73 lawyers in the regional resource centers, and that after reorganization there would be only 36 or 37 left.
"We agreed with the resource centers that each office does not need a lawyer, so we decided to halve their number,” he explained.
Moreover, the minister added that such optimization would also apply to the regional representatives of the Audit Service.
Jejelava believes that in order to save some financial resources, Internet companies ought to be contracted instead of the "school-based" internet specialists currently employed.
The Minister does not rule out the reorganization of employees working in the ministry itself.
On the whole, he said around 250 people would be dismissed from the ministry and its branches.
Also, Jejelava said the Ministry has confirmed a new scheme of teachers’ qualification exams. After passing two obligatory exams teachers will be promoted, and their salaries increased.
The optimization process is likely to be launched in other ministries as well.
