Star Wars Actress Carrie Fisher Dies

Actress Carrie Fisher, best known for her film role as Princess Leia, died at the age of 60. Her death was confirmed in a statement made by her daughter Billie Lourd’s publicist yesterday.

Fisher suffered a heart attack on a flight from London to Los Angeles on Friday and had been in hospital since.

Daughter of Hollywood legend Debbie Reynolds and singer Eddie Fisher, Carrie was a beloved actress for millions of fans of the Star Wars movie franchise, portraying Princess Leia as a strong, powerful and independent character.

After hearing the news of her passing, her friends and longtime colleagues shared their thoughts and condolences.

Actor Harrison Ford said she was “one of a kind” who lived her life bravely.

George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars, which brought Fisher to overnight success said:

"Carrie and I have been friends most of our adult lives. She was extremely smart; a talented actress, writer and comedienne with a very colorful personality that everyone loved.”
