Georgian PM Holds Meeting with President of Swiss Confederation
Giorgi Kvirikashvili, the Prime Minister of Georgia, held a meeting with Doris Leuthard, the President of the Swiss Confederation, during his two-day visit to the World Economic Forum in Davos.
During the meeting, existing relations between the two countries and the potential for strengthening bilateral cooperation in trade and economic, agricultural, touristic and education spheres were discussed.
Lessons from the Swiss experience in these matters are seen as valuable for Georgia’s development of its own mountainous regions, a point mentioned explicitly during the talks. The parties emphasized the significance of the free trade agreement recently signed between Georgia and the European Free Trade Asssociation (EFTA).
While discussing Georgia’s relations with Russia and the current situation in its occupied territories, Kvirikashvili thanked the Swiss president for the confederation’s support of Georgia’s soveregnity and territorial integrity, as well as for acting as a mediator in Russian-Georgia relations.
“We see Georgia as a stabilizing force in the region,” Ms. Leuthard said.
