PM Kvirikashvili Hopes for Deeper Cooperation with USA
TBILISI – Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili has expressed his hope that the country’s existing strategic cooperation with the United States will be deepened under the administration of a new President of America, Donald Trump.
The PM made his comments at the government session on January 24. He congratulated Trump on winning the elections and wished him success.
Kvirikashvili emphasized his belief in Georgia’s role as the US’s main ally and “devoted friend” in the region. Since Georgia’s independence, he said, the US has always been a strong supporter of the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and a key partner in international dealings.
“We have institutionalized the strategic relationship format, which includes a number of areas: defense, security, economy, trade, energy and people-to-people contacts. I hope this relationship will be strengthened even more,” he said.
The PM also spoke about the US role worldwide, noting that a “strong America is very important in ensuring peace and stability.”
