David Koma Dresses Models in Georgian Chokha

David Koma, a well-known UK-based Georgian fashion designer, was inspired by traditional Georgian costume motifs for his latest collection.

Koma refers to the Georgian traditional dance Kartuli as the impulse for his inspiration, “a dramatic clash between a man and a woman” he says, with the traditional Georgian men's costume Chokha a starting point for his new clothing line.

Koma presented his ready-to-wear collection at the London Fashion Week, after which Russian Vogue named him a prodigy of fashion.

Georgian polyphonic song could be heard during his show.

David Koma was born in Tbilisi. He relocated to St. Petersburg with his parents, where he studied Fine Arts. He moved to London in 2003 and studied at St. Martins College of Art and Design.  As well as owning his own label, in 2013 David Koma is the Creative Director at Mugler.
