Georgia Sends Protest Note to Russia via Embassy of Swiss Confederation
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) held a meeting with Günter Bachler, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Switzerland to Georgia.
Georgian diplomats briefed the Swiss ambassador on the illegal installation of border signposts by the Russian Federation, on July 10, and condemned the provocative act aimed at destabilizing
the situation on the ground.
Ambassador Bachler was handed a note of protest of the Georgian MFA for submission to the Russian side. At the meeting, the Swiss diplomat stressed that this illegal action should be properly reacted to.
The Georgian MFA is actively conducting meetings to inform the international community on the placement of signposts by the Russian occupational forces, marking the so- called “state border” on the territory adjacent to the village of Tsitelubani of Gori municipality and the village of Orchosani in occupied Akhalgori district, near the Tbilisi-Gori central highway, due to which a certain portion of BP-operated Baku-Supsa pipeline falls within the occupied territory.
Tamar Beruchashvili, Minister of the Foreign Affairs, has already met with the head of the European Union Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM).
The MFA has also appealed to the diplomatic corps over South Ossetia border encroachment.
