Geostat: Georgia’s Population Has Decreased
The National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat) has released Georgian population statistics as of January 1, 2017, which show that Georgia’s population has decreased by 0.1 percent since last year.
As of January 1 of this year, the population of Georgia equaled 3,718,2 thousand persons, of which 57,2 percent (2,128,6 thousand persons) lived in urban areas and 42,8 percent (1,589,6 thousand persons) lived in rural areas.
The majority of Georgians live in the capital, Tbilisi (1,114,6 people), followed by Imereti (529,700 people), Kvemo Kartli (427,400), the Adjara Region (339,000 people), Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti (328,300), Kakheti (317,500), Shida Kartli (263,700), Samtskhe-Javakheti (160,600), Guria (112,600), Mtsketa-Mtianeti (93,800), and Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti (31, 000).
The statistics also show that there are more women in Georgia than men. The data reveals that 52.1 percent of Georgia’s population is female, while 47.9 percent is male.
