Georgian President, PM Congratulate Macron on Victory
TBILISI – President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili was among the first officials to congratulate the president-elect of France, Emmanuel Macron, on his election win. Macron, a centrist candidate, won the French presidential elections with 66.06 percent of the vote, defeating far-right candidate Marine Le Pen, who received 33.94 percent of the vote.
Margvelashvili said that the French people have confirmed their great trust in Macron and their aspiration for prosperity and further development. “This is a choice in support of a strong France and strong Europe, which is especially important for the future of our common European family,” he said.
The Georgian president emphasized that France represents one of the symbols and pillars of democracy in the modern world, full of challenges and obstacles. “I believe that your presidency will further highlight and strengthen this crucial and honorable mission,” Margvelashvili’s letter to Macron said.
