New Dates for Donald Tusk’s Visit to Georgia Announced

Donald Tusk, President of the European Council, will pay an official visit to Georgia on July 20-21.

During the two-day visit, President Tusk will meet face-to-face with Giorgi Margvelashvili, President of Georgia. The two presidents will hold a joint press conference following the official meeting.

Donald Tusk has also planned meetings with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, and Davit Usupashvili, Speaker of Parliament. Afterwards, Donald Tusk will speak with the leaders of the Georgian opposition.

Within the framework of this visit, the EU diplomat is expected to address Georgia’s peacekeeping contingent in Central Africa which is carried out under the aegis of the EU at the Presidential Palace.

Tusk is then scheduled to lay a wreath on the War Memorial of Heroes, in Tbilisi, who fell in the struggles for Georgia’s territorial integrity.

The President of the European Council was invited by Giorgi Margvelashvili when he arrived in Brussels on May 12 for a meeting, prior to the upcoming Eastern Partnership (EaP) Summit in Riga, Latvia. The initial dates of his arrival, July 14-16, were unexpectedly changed because of the Greek financial crisis and ongoing bailout negotiations.
