Local Elections in Georgia to be Held in Late October

Georgia’s President announced today that the local elections will be held at the end of the third week of October 2017.

The president made the statement at a special press conference at the Presidential Administration.

However, he has not specified the exact date of the elections.

“We have worked and negotiated with the government regarding the issue, but the act on scheduling the elections will be issued at the end of August, 60 days earlier the elections,” he said.

The draft amendment to the electoral legislation are in the process of being reviewd in parliament with the second hearing, which envisages that the date of local self-government elections cannot be appointed earlier than 60 days.
