Speaker of Georgian Parliament to Visit NATO Headquarters
Davit Usupashvili, Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, will be visiting NATO headquarters in the frames of the NATO-Georgia Commission meeting, on July 22.
Usupashvili will discuss matters of Georgia’s NATO integration with representatives of the alliance member states. At the Commission meeting he will also speak about very concrete initiatives of strengthening defense capabilities, from both the political and other stances.
The Speaker of the Georgian Parliament said that he views this visit as a “follow up” of his address to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly session in Budapest in May 2015. He said that while in Brussels he will represent his country's interests and not the interests of particular political parties or political figures in Georgia.
During his visit to Brussels, the Parliament Speaker will also meet Alexander Wershbow, NATO’s Deputy Secretary General.
In June NATO and Georgia started a multi-national military training “Agile Spirit 2015”, held in the frames of the Substantial NATO-Georgia Package which was endorsed by allied heads of state and government at the Wales summit.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg is expected to open the NATO-Georgia Joint Training and Evaluation Center next month in the frames of his official visit to Georgia.
