Ukraine’s Poroshenko meets Georgia’s President
The President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko and his delegation are paying an official visit to Georgia.
Poroshenko has already met his Georgian counterpart, Giorgi Margvelashvili, at the Presidential Palace in the Avlabari district, Tbilisi.
Russian occupation policy relating to Georgia and Ukraine, as well as Euro-Atlantic aspirations of both countries were the main issues discussed by both presidents.
“Our nations have strong connections and I believe that your visit will further strengthen these links. Thank you for visiting Georgia,” Margvelashvili addressed his counterpart during the face-to-face meeting.
Margvelashvili underlined that Georgia will continue supporting Ukraine within the international arena and highlighted the need and importance for joint actions.
“Georgia has two breakaway occupied regions but simultaneously this country is based on cooperation and friendship,” he added.

Poroshenko said he feels at home in Georgia. He added that Georgia and Ukraine have similar challenges.
“I see such a friendly atmosphere here. Our nations aspire for freedom and democracy, we are fighting for freedom as we both are victims of Russian aggression,” he noted.
According to him, pressure on Russia from the international community should be continued until Russia fully fulfils all undertaken obligations.
After the meeting the two presidents signed an agreement on the Georgia-Ukraine Strategic Partnership.
Poroshenko was also hosted by the Georgian Prime Minister, Giorgi Kvirikashvili, at the governmental administration.

The main topics of the face-to-face meeting were the common interests and challenges of the two countries and the establishment of strategic relations between Georgia and Ukraine.
Cooperation within the framework of international and regional organizations, European integration and Euro-Atlantic aspirations of Georgia and Ukraine, also the upcoming Eastern Partnership Summit, and bilateral trade-economic cooperation were also discussed by both sides.
The Prime Minister of Georgia and the President of Ukraine talked about large-scale international transport and energy projects, as well as cooperation within the framework of the new Silk Road initiative.
Both Presidents also reiterated the need for strong support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the two countries within the internationally recognized borders.
