74 Prisoners to be Released Following Presidential Pardon

The Head of the Pardon Commission, Zviad Koridze has announced that the President of Georgia, Giorgi Margvelashvili has pardoned 98 prisoners, 74 of whom will be released today.

The decision was made after the Pardon Commission reviewed 589 applications and sent recommendations to the President.

"Out of the 74 convicts set for immediate release, one is female and two are minors," Koridze said.

Koridze also stated that the majority of those pardoned had been convicted of drug-related crimes.

He noted that the Presidential Pardon would not cover those convicted of violent crimes.
