Georgian President Meets US Congressmen in Tbilisi
Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili met with the United States (US) Congressmen at the Presidential Palace on Thursday in order to discuss his recent initiative over appointment of the special US representative to Georgia.
The conversation also touched upon the sanctions imposed by the US Congress on Russia, which according to the President, reflect deterrence of Russian revisionism.
The topic of Russia’s aggressive policy towards Georgia was raised at the meeting.
The parties summed up the outcomes of the US Vice President Mike Pence’s visit to Georgia and noted that the visit has opened up new perspectives of cooperation and the US-Georgia relations have moved to a new stage.
“We will be pursuing the issue of the special representative, working with the Vice President’s office and working with President Donald Trump. President Trump has a deep affection for the people of Central and Eastern Europe, and he clearly stated in Warsaw this summer that he has a deep love and affection for the people of Central and Eastern Europe,” stated the US Representative for South Carolina's 2nd Congressional District, Joe Wilson after the meeting.
The Head of the Administration of the President of Georgia Giorgi Abashishvili, the Secretary of the National Security Council of Georgia Davit Rakviashvili, the Political Secretary of the President of Georgia Pikria Chikhradze and the Ambassador of the United States of America to Georgia Ian Kelly also attended the meeting.
